'Transport improvements in Wales will be greener'
A five-year plan for transport in Wales aims to meet growing demand while making travel greener.
Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones launched the final version of the national transport plan, promising a system fit for the 21st century.
“I am committed to developing a decarbonised transport system, where people are able to choose healthier and more sustainable modes of travel,” he said.
“We are working to improve bus and rail services. We are also aiming to increase the number of people walking or cycling, and through our programme of Sustainable Travel Centres we will invest in new, and link existing, walking and cycling routes.”
He wants to improve reliability, quality and speed of rail and to improve journey times and safety on the main trunk roads, on east-west and north-south routes.

train service, and a programme of continued improvements in rail services between north and south Wales are also priorities.
Road improvements will start by 2011, on A470 at Llanrwst and A487 at Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog.
