IOLO WILLIAMS IS NEW AMBASSADOR FOR TRAVELINE CYMRU

15th DECEMBER 2009

Iolo Williams with Traveline Cymru Chairman, Alan Kreppel & Mascot, Traveline Tim
Iolo Williams has been appointed as an Ambassador for Traveline Cymru. Iolo also known as ‘Birdman’,  is one of Wales’ leading wildlife experts and has fronted numerous Welsh nature programmes as well as being the face of the 2009 Royal Welsh Show.

Iolo is supporting Traveline Cymru, the Welsh Assembly Government’s public transport information service in a bid to raise the profile of the company and the services they offer to help increase the use of public transport in Wales and reduce the number of cars on the roads.

Iolo says: ‘Traveline Cymru do an excellent job providing the general public in Wales and visitors to the country with up to date, joined up travel and transport information. Unfortunately not enough people are aware of the services on offer and it is my role to help raise their profile. My interest is obviously in conserving the beautiful environment and wildlife in Wales and I am supporting Traveline Cymru’s aim to help with that by getting people out of their cars and encouraging them to take the bus or train, walk or cycle.’

Traveline Cymru is delighted to have Mr Williams on board believing he will be a great asset in promoting the use of alternative travel modes to the Welsh public. Chairman for Traveline Cymru, Alan Kreppel said: ‘Traveline Cymru are thrilled that Iolo has agreed to support our endeavours in encouraging the use of public transport, cycling and walking in Wales. It is our role to provide the public with the information they need to make their journey in any way they wish and Iolo will be a great asset in assisting us to do this.’

Iolo will be joining Traveline Tim, the company’s green lycra clad mascot in raising the profile of the Traveline Cymru services within Wales at events such as the Royal Welsh Show as well as a number of university fresher’s fairs.
