Stagecoach in South Wales invests over £2m in new fleet of ‘greener’ buses.
Stagecoach South Wales kick-started the first ever UK wide ‘Stagecoach Green Week’ with the launch of a brand new fleet of 17 ‘greener’ buses in Cardiff Central. The low-floor, easy access ADL/MAN Enviro 300 buses will operate on the X4 service, which runs between Hereford and Cardiff via Abergavenny, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd.
The buses have new and improved interiors with step free entrances which enable customers to roll on wheelchairs, buggies or shopping trolleys. They are also the first fleet of Stagecoach buses in Wales to offer its customers Wi-Fi technology. The buses represent the very latest in clean engine technology, meeting Euro IV emissions standards, helping to cut carbon emissions and reducing the environmental impact of the service.
To launch the new fleet of buses in Cardiff, John Gould, Managing Director of Stagecoach in South Wales was joined by Chris Franks, AM for South Wales Central, Nick Ramsay, AM for Monmouth and Cllr Kate Lloyd, Lord Mayor of Cardiff to show their support of the service enhancement on route X4, which serves their constituencies.
Speaking at the launch, Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales Central, Chris Franks, said: “The Welsh Government is committed to creating better transport links across Wales. Dramatic improvements to public transport will encourage people to reduce car use. This in turn will contribute to reducing the Welsh carbon footprint.”
